Hen won’t let me hold her

Hey I’ve had my new hen olive since June and she was born last January or February so she’s about a year old, and I’ve wanted to pick her up but every time I try she runs, so I was wondering if I should let her rooster buddy who loves to try and attack me out to free range while I try and pick her up in the fenced in area, should I just sweep down real quick and grab her or what do I do I don’t want her to be scared of me and I want to bond with her, thanks y’all I’m sure someone you I’ll know what to do.

Most hens want nothing to do with you, but if you must catch her then gently grab her tail feathers at the base so you don’t pull any out, In my experience the hen has never acted like it was painful.

Try putting treats in your hand and hand feeding her. When you do pick her up grab around the wings and make sure they are close to her body.

My hen is only for eggs and while everyone wants my rooster in the stew pot I will never do that lol
