Hen Won’t Stand / Walking on Hocks

It just seems I can’t catch a break with these birds this last month.

Today I arrive to bring the chickens some Christmas snacks and come to find one of my hens is refusing to walk/stand and is walking on her hocks if she must move.

Background Information:
About 3 years old. She’s eating / drinking just fine and is sitting up, doesn’t seem to be lethargic at all either. Hasn’t had any health issues before - she wasn’t even affected by our bout of dry pox. She doesn’t seem hurt either, the most of any injury I can see might be a healing scab on her foot - not infected form what I can tell but I will look at it again later.

I’m wondering if it may be a vitamin deficiency?

I’ve separated her to the best of my abilities for the time being until I’m able to bring her home in a few hours to properly monitor her.

Sitting or walking on hocks can be a sign of a riboflavin (vitamin B 2) deficiency. It can lead to curled toe paralysis. I would right away start some human B complex 1/2 tablet daily, which can be crushed in some food or given orally. Riboflavin tablets can also be used, but just a little scraping daily. Beef liver and brewers yeast also contain riboflavin. Sometimes they may suffer a back or leg injury, or something like Mareks could also cause this.

I suspected vitamin B deficiency, fortunately I have tablets it on-hand and have already started it

I don’t think it’s mareks as she’s not exhibiting any other symptom nor does it seem to be on-sided - she also doesn’t seem to be in pain when I was examining her / touching so… hoping for the best there.

Hi, I have a 21 week old sapphire gem doing the same thing. No bumblefoot and has laid an egg everyday this week while confined inside the house in a pen. Eats and drinks like a champ. Been giving poultry cell, lately undiluted. And just won’t stand up and sits on hocks. What happened with your chicken? I’d love to know, thank you
