I have a question for anyone who could assist!! I have a hen sitting on an unknown amount of eggs and believe she is trying to hatch them. I do have one rooster so am I right in assuming she may hatch? thank you

Glad you have joined us.

Sounds like she wants to be a mother hen. If she is truly broody, she will sit the nest 24hrs except for a couple of trips off to eat and drink. If you approach the nest does she fuss and puff her feathers - if so, looks like you are gonna get some chicks.

Yes they will probably hatch but take the eggs she has now and mark them so she does not have anymore hatch on different days. And if u can try and block her from the rest of the flock

If she refuses to leave the nest to eat/drink/poo, you will need to make her go out and take care of business, at least a couple times a day. A broody will usually hurry about her needs to get back to the eggs.

thanks drumstick diva.... yes when i open up the nesting box she blows up, grunts and will try to peck me so I leave her alone..... Thanks so much for the response

I think 21 days from the beginning of sitting. But if a little longer don't despair - no personal experience, read that in the forums. Good luck, would love to see pics if successful.

Do make sure she does leave the nest to eat and drink twice a day.

I would recommend posting for suggestions on how to separate the hen and chicks from the rest of flock on hatching baby chicks forum. Just to be prepared for the patter of tiny feet and beaks.
