we've looked at the various "chicken won't stand up" threads but...

we have a 10 week-old hen who was being pecked/feathers pulled by her coopmates so we separated her and her sister into a smaller area. a couple of days later we found her nestled on the ground. she seemed fine except she wouldn't stand. if we lift her, her legs are frozen in the seated position, they don't drop down. her appetite seems fine (we have her positioned near the feeder/waterer) and she eats/drinks normally. we put a combo vitamin/antibiotic in the water, her poop seems mostly fine with, perhaps a slight greenish cast and very slightly runny. other than not standing, she seems healthy/happy.

any suggestions?

thanks to the board.

...we put a combo vitamin/antibiotic in the water,

What is the name of this product?
What are you feeding her?

it was the starter stuff we get at tractor supply; don't recall the name right now. we just switched them to starter/grower but that happened after the onset of this incident.

i'm not sure of the name of the vitamin/antibiotic but i'll find out and post back.

It could be all sorts of things...
An injury, a sprain, a break...
We'll need some more information from you...
But as long as she's eating and drinking and going to the bathroom, there's a chance...

the antibiotic is terramycin (sp?) and it has been used in their water since we got them 8 weeks ago or so. beyond that i have no further info. it looks as though her legs are paralyzed but otherwise she's ok. my wife cleans her vent a couple of times a day and all that seems normal. appetite is still good and she drinks normally. she's in a small enclosure and had no place to fall from to break anything.

puzzling.

wife was just down there and says she may also have an impacted crop. she's not sure if it's impacted or just full. wonder if this is a result of her not standing rather than a symptom thereof.

what have you been feeding her and what is she getting now?

she was getting the starter stuff from tractor supply, now getting the starter/grower. she also gets some scratch and grit, plus some fresh vegetables from our garden cut up.

all of our other chickens got the same thing.

her crop seems to have softened up now.

ok, her poop is now bright green. really need some help here. thanks.
