Hens are eating their coop!

Seems my essential oil blend has worked. Kept the girls locked in longer this morning to see what they’d do. They kept to the rest of the run instead of all hanging out under the coop. Yesterday I added clove oil to the blend before spraying as I noticed some ants. No more eating the coop and no more ants. I’m going to wrap the fly screen around the slats anyway just to be sure. Coop cost a fortune and I won’t be happy if they eat through it haha!

Here my birds go nuts for many where that crawling bugs have hunkered down for the night.....maybe the oils drove away any yummy crawling bugs.

My oil mixture just deters mites, ants and coop eating chickens. I’m fairly sure there’ll still be spiders, small lizards and cockroaches for them to chase after. Used to gross me out watching them tear apart insects. Now I catch insects to throw into their run just to see which girl gets it first haha!

It's funny how our squeamish side changes when chickens are involved.

The first time I saw a hen with a mouse....

The ants are likely what the chickens were after, the coop wood was just in their way.

A mouse! Yeah that’s pretty gross. Mouse was probably stealing her food. Never come between a hen and her food haha! Kudos to your hen. She’s hardcore.

Just so you all know my oil blend is a fail. Ants have gone but hens (only 2 of them) still pecking the wood this morning. Tap tap tap tap tap tap. I think they’re trying to bust their way out haha! Coop modification day today while they free range.
