We got 2 roosters from a friend who could not keep them. They were headed to the freezer with our extra roosters. When my son went to the coop to get them, one had laid an egg!!!

She had a huge comb and spurs on both legs. Her spurs were not sharp however. Her egg was timed perfectly...an hour or 2 later??? "I'm a hen! I'm a hen!! I'm a HEN!!!"She didn't lay another egg for 6 -8 weeks. But since has been our best layer. We also found out she is a brown leghorn.

Three of these birds have appeared in flocks owned by BYC members, myself included. There is a thread about one named Tang (now deceased) who was predominantly male and fathered completely normal chicks. Another one that is a EE with one yellow and one green leg, and mine that is predominantly female and lays eggs. Although she started crowing this evening. She is not with a male but so far her eggs have been infertile. I suspect though that if the eggs were fertilized, the chicks would also be normal.

Tang (not my bird)
