Ive read that this is from mating. Is this true?

No, not all hens, only the roosters favorite girls.

How many roosters do you have? If you hens backs are bare you should pull the roosters out and allow the feathers on the hens to grow back.

okay! I have 2 roosters. I am in the process of buying my hens. I had some chicks lined up to buy but the lady sold them out from under me after she knew I wanted them. So now Im looking for more chicks.

So how many hens do you have for two rooster? If your current hens are bald due to mating, you need to pen your roosters up until you have more hens available, get rid of a rooster, or provide chicken saddles for the girls. You risk infection if their skin gets broken, and I can't imagine your hens are happy if they're THAT wore down.

ETA: It's recommended that you keep about 10 hens per rooster. Many get by with less if they have nonaggressive roosters who are gentle with hens.

my roosters are non aggressive, and I am buying more hens right now. I have 6 per rooster right now.

I have nine hens and one rooster. His two favorite hens are bare-backed right now. He mates them all, though.

I'll be adding about 10 pullets to the flock this summer, so he'll have plenty to go around. I don't want fertilized eggs, so I don't need/want another roo.

I think that 2 roosters are just too much for your poor girls! But you might also have a case of feather pecking going on. I don't have any roosters, and still have some bald backs. I'm working on finding out who the culprit is....

Well i am in the process of getting more hens. Its just hard to find what i want. had some lined up but they lady sold them on me. So now waiting on a call for some others.


I love my roosters they are sweethearts so adding more girls is my plan. I am making the pen bigger as well. right now its big enough to hold 25. My kids are spoiled rotten.

I have rhode Island reds, golden comets, Wyonodotes(sp)XAustrapXBuff Orpington Crosses

Getting Amercanuas, and Barred Rocks next. I also like the Brahmas.
