One of my hens combs has gone hard. It seems thicker than normal and its not 'floppy' like it used to be. It feels hard and stiff.

Its been like this for about 1 week, not getting worse or better. Its slightly swollen, but not much.

Today it seems to be splitting or peeling on one side and the flesh is bright red and looks sore.

She has also lost all the feathers on top of her head next to the comb. Her head is the same texture and colour as her comb.

What is going on with her? Is this a kind of disease? Its the normal red colour, but stiff and hard. My other chicks are all fine.

Hmm.. if you could post a picture it would be a big help to what's going on. Usually it could be frostbite, if it's really cold outside, or another common situation would be if the rooster or another hen pecked at the comb, but in that case, it wouldn't be peeling.
