Hens crowing!

My hens love to wake up at 6:00 AM and cackle/crow and otherwise make LOTS of noise. First of all, I purposlly don't have roosters for the reason that they crow. (I live in the city with nieghbors 20 feet from my coop.) I don't want them to get too ticked off, and I must say it isn't fun getting up that early either. Any help ideas to get them to stop? My way of getting them to shut it is I put them back in the coop and close all the doors and windows so it is dark and then they go back to sleep until 8:00 when I let them out. I know this isn't a good way to handle things, but I'm desperate! Please help!

i think you're already doing what i would do by letting them out later. my hens are SO loud in the morning and it's pretty constant, more so than my roosters' crowing!
