Hens have raw shoulders, how to heal?

While mounting my hens, my rooster clawed the shoulder feathers out of two of my three hens. Rooster is now gone, but some questions remain. First, is this par for the course or might this have been simply an overly aggressive rooster? Second, rooster has been gone four or five weeks but the hens haven't been showing much, if any, sign of healing. Could my other hens be picking on the injured two? Third, what's the best way to treat my two injured hens? Separate them from the one healthy hen (a little hard to quarantine my free-ranging hens who share a single coop)? What medicine to apply? other suggestions? Thanks.

You can try rooster booster peck no more on the wounds. It prevents pecking and treats the wounds with natural tea tree oil. I use it in my flock. You can get it at the feed store for about 8 dollars. My guess would be yes an overly aggressive rooster then once they get the wounds others will continue pecking on it. next time you can try hen saddles to protect the hens from the roosters. Peck no more has always worked well for me. I'm not sure the severity of the wounds but I'd watch them closely to make sure they don't get fly blown. hope this helps best wishes
