I have 25 chickens and 1 Rooster. It seems that the Rooster is lossing all the feathers and is red on his legs and all the hens have lost feathers on the tops of their heads and backsides. I thought maybe at first it was the Rooster's doing, but a few days ago had a healthy looking hen die. I have checked for lice, mites, fleas, etc and seem to find no trace of anything of that nature. Is this some kind of desease? Will it effect the eggs?
If there are any suggestions on what is going on, your thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks,
Jaime

How old are they? Could they be molting?

The red skin may be a sun burn. I've had a couple of hens get sun burned when they had bare backs. I made them some aprons, and they have grown beautiful new feathers,

It doesn't sound like aprons are the solution here, though. You could try keeping yours in the shade, maybe, until they have feathers again?

They are 10 months old. I thought molting was only near the end of the summer?
Sunburn, I never thought of that.
Thanks,
