Hens not laying eggs

Hi Lynn :frow and welcome. How do your chickens' feathers look to you? If they are a little rough or ragged looking, or are missing tail feathers or have some bald spots, they could be molting. This will keep them from laying eggs for a few weeks. They are about the right age for it. If you suspect they are molting, you mught try a feed higher in protein to get them back in condition sooner. And definitely cut back on the snacks. The formulated feed provides all that they need.

If their feathers look good, the next thing I would think of is the heat. It doesn't have to get into the hundreds for them to take a break. If this is a hot time of year for them, laying might slow down for a bit until they acclimate.

One other possibility is the presence of a snake. Snakes do love chicken eggs! But you say you are getting one egg a day, so that doesn't sound very likely. Hopefully they will be back on the job sooner rather than later. Good luck!

Thank you, their feathers are looking fine. They had their molt months ago. No snake thank god. Weather has been decent. They seem to be happy. Dust bathing, eating and when I let them out they do their foraging. They relax. Follow me around so they are acting as normal as always. They are not hot because they are not breathing with mouth open as I have seen on hot days in the past summers. Still cool up here in the mountains. We did have two warm days last week. They just laid around snd then as it cooled down they went along there routine.
