Hens not laying in nest boxes.

i have an old fashioned remedy granny used with new hen's,she would put an old white door knob in the nest's,it always worked and ours have access to the coop all day,that might help.i put fake ceramic eggs in my nest boxe's,i'm hoping when they are ready to lay it does the trick!i did have 2 squatter's today but no egg's yet,i think its too early. good luck!
