My new flock just started laying about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have 4 barred rocks and two buff orpingtons, so far 2 hens are laying. The others are showing the signs that they are about to lay. Anyways I'm getting two eggs a day from two of the barred rocks, they like to lay in the corner of their coop. The corner I'm finding the eggs in is behind the roosting bar and about a foot from the door going to the run. I have a double nesting box on the coop. My last flock of ISA browns had no problem figuring out that they should lay eggs in the box. My new hens go in the box, I can tell because they move the ceramic eggs around and kick up the bedding in it. I'm thinking of putting some of their eggs in the box with ceramic eggs maybe? Is the anything I am missing or can do to attract them to lay in the nesting box?

Pullets usually figure it out. By your description it sounds like you have one of those smaller coops?

Pullets can get crabby and bossy when they start laying. It could be one is trying to control the nestboxes for herself. Another thought is the ones just like laying where they are laying.

It can take a few weeks to months for pullets to get everything figured out as far as laying.
