Hens not laying, possible remedy

About a month ago I was not getting any eggs from my 15+ layers (they had stopped laying in sept). So I put a light in the coop (regular 60 w bulb) and set it to stay on until 10 pm. I then increased their feed a bit (basically free choice layer pellet), they were already getting alot but just not free-choice. I then gave them a bucket of water (they normally drink out of sippers). WITHIN 1 week egg production went from 2 eggs per week to 7 eggs a day and now we are getting 1 doz eggs a day. SO if you are having problems with your birds laying you may want to try what I did
