Hens Not Laying. Would a Rooster Help?

About 6 months ago we had a problem with a predator that decimated our flock. That problem is now solved, but we were down to three hens. About a month ago we bought 6 adolescent hens to replenish the flock. They are still not laying. We've tried cayenne pepper and chili powder with no luck. Some have said it's because of the warm weather, but we didn't have this problem during the 3 year drought that we had. We were wondering if giving them a rooster might jump-start them?

Sidebar~ The Khaki Campbell ducks are still laying almost an egg every day which pretty much rules out environmental issues to my thinking.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I wouldn't think so. How old are the new pullets?

Don't know for sure. At least 6 months. We do have 3 mature hens that survived and they aren't laying anymore either.

No, in fact a bothersome rooster is just that BOTHERSOME, if you just want EGGS.

A month is not long for new birds to become adjusted to a new home, especially, if there are older birds to accept them (and sometimes they never do).

With good feed, water, housing for safety (the older ones may have a long recovery from predation of their sisters--LONG) healthy pullets and hens LAY EGGS. Roosters Crow--that is the way of it

So be patient, and one day you will hear the cackle of the "egg song" and will be on the way to great eggs again. Good luck.
