Our 8 hens sleep on the wall "ledge" instead of the different height roosts I (spent all afternoon one day fretting over whether they'd like them or not) have in our coop. Is this okay? I worry about poop.... I know chickens like to be as high up as possible.
Our coop is an old smokehouse. Concrete floor.....stone.....built in the '60's.
The 8 are 10 or 11 weeks old now.....they've been in the coop since Mother's Day. First couple of nights they slept on the floor. Couple of nights on the highest roost (after we put them there) and sometimes 1 or 2 will sleep on the roost while the others are on the "ledge". We have 10 bantams as well, and they sleep in the corner on the floor. We can't even put them on a roost for more than 20 seconds. They are about 6-7 weeks old.
