I purchased 6 RIR'S back in April. One has been laying eggs for a month. When I bought them there were one or two, that you could see were smaller, younger. would they be this far in age apart for them all not to be laying yet? They look and act heallthy and fat, plus fluffy. LOL

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

I got 3 barred rocks that were hatched on the same day from the feed store/hatchery. They DID start laying at least a month apart from the first to the last. Maybe longer. They are all individuals and even from the same place or parents might have different genes expressed by them.

I also had a leghorn I was told SHOULD start laying at 16 weeks not start until 22 or so.

Sounds normal to me. :)

Girl's gonna lay when she does... Could take a while. The best way to figure out if they're close is to feel their pelvic bones. If you can get three fingers between the bones, then their ready to pop out those eggs!
