hens side tore open

I hope this is not hijacking. This happened to all of our hens last year. We did not know what caused it. What causes the Tom to do that? He had done all our hens the last two years just fine and then suddenly he tore them up. Does it mean he is to heavy?

I was told it meant his toe-nails were too long. You might try and clip them (

that's what I thought when they said I had to clip his toenails, just make sure to have a helper)

My hen just got tore up today. I was so scared. Our coop is completely closed inside and outside so we knew nothing like a dog or coon could have gotten to her. (We looked outside anyway for feathers and blood!) I read a bunch of posts about this and gave her penicillin in the breast and sprayed Red Kote on her. I didn't have Blue Kote on hand. We are going to remove the spurs from our Tom tomorrow. After reading some posts it seems really easy. After we gave her the penicillin I read a post that it was toxic. I hope we didn't screw up!
