Today, my 16 week old pullets started squaking loudly like they are really stressed or something is attacking them. When I ran outside to see what was going on, they were just standing in thier run squaking as loud as they could. There wasn't an intruder in the run and i checked around for holes in the fence and there weren't any. I talked to them and they stopped squaking, but when I left they started again. They have been doing this all day. I'm concerned about my neighbors complaining because they are soo loud. Are they sick? Do they usually do this before they start laying? Just a worried chicken owner. Thanks

I'd really wonder if there's something they see that hid when you opened the door. Predators, or neighborhood animals, are really that smart. I have never heard of hens doing that without a cause. So I'd investigate. Look for prints... maybe put some sort of powder around their run and see if you can get tracks that way.

They might be ready to lay some eggs, my pullets do that when they are getting ready to start laying
