Hens squawking all the time....

Since spring started, my 5 hens are squawking a lot throughout the day, they are enclosed in a secured run in our backyard, we live in town so cant let them free range, they are a year old, there are no predators, dogs or cats around, could it be all the spring birds making them squawk all the time or are they bored? They can get pretty annoying, when I go out by them they quiet down, I'm thinking I have some spoiled ladies!

Probably just asking to be led out to the yard - loudly My girls do that sometimes too.

That is what chickens do. Day light hours are egg production hours. I have over 150 birds right now. Your ears will ring from that noise. All a part of owning livestock.

Everytime my girls see me in the back yard, they start running to the gate and going side to side while proclaiming "bawk..bawk bawk bawk baaaawkkk"

If I don't go back and let the prisoners have some yard time, it gets louder and more agitated lol

I have never let them out of the run, wish I could, but our yard is not fenced in....

This group is already laying - but it doesn't matter morning/afternoon/evening .. they run back and forth like prisoners rattling little tin cups on the chicken run while letting me know there's GRASS in the extended run/yard. It's funny how fast it goes from sounding like "please please please please" to something like "b*tch...b*tch b*tch"

It really depends on the batch. My currant flock, Only 9 hens are really driving me NUTS!! Some of them are makeing noises like a train is passing buy: AHUUNNNKKKK HUA HUA HUA!
(On such occasions I seriously think of roast chicken for dinner! )

How big is your coop and run, in feet by feet?
They may need more space.... bigger run.
Yes, you are spoiling 'training' them to 'train' you by responding to their vocalizations.
