I also find it helpful to wrap the end of the roost bars where they are anchored to the wall with a strip of double sided tape. Any mites that show up in the night, at least a few will be stuck to the tape on the underside of the roost. Rubbing a paper towel after dark on the underside of the roost is also helpful. If it comes away bloody then there are mites but doesn’t tell you what type.

Nice idea with narrow tape. I did check 3 weeks ago and PTL no critters.

Can I ask what specifically did you notice as tension that wasn’t apparent

It is kind of hard to explain, but then seemed less watchful, like they just relaxed. They were less skittish and seemed to just like paying attention to one rooster, instead of keeping an eye open all the time on both rooster. It was a significant change.
