I have one Silkie roo (5 months old) and two bantam naked neck Silkie mix hens (8 months and 1 year old) who have been housed together for a little over a month. Unfortunately, my roo is scared to death of my hens and I'm worried I'll never end up with chicks. Is there anything I can do to facilitate some romance? The hens seem to be trying to woo the roo but he's not buyin' it. Other than the performance anxiety everything else seems to be normal with the roo, he's larger than the hens but likes to keep to himself.

How long have you had them together? At 5 months, he may JUST NOW be getting his hormones flowing. I would not worry - give them time.

They've only been together a month. Is it normal for a roo to be frightened of the hens until he comes of age?

I don't know if this makes any difference to the issue at hand, but he's be crowing for about 3 or 4 weeks.
