I just got back from a week away (Dad-sitting in CA) and found my 17wk old pullets looking more like hens than ever - 2 of the 5 have larger red wattles & combs than when I left!
(yippeee!!! eggs will be here soon!!!)
I had "salted" the nestboxes with fake wooden eggs - about the same size & weight as a real egg - and 2 of them were on the coop floor.
The boxes are old fruit crates set about 1' off the floor & filled with shavings. I have a couple 2X4s acting as ramps up to them.
How the heck can they pick up & move something so large with those ittybitty beaks???
