i just got a new rooster the first night i brought him home he roosted with the 6 RIR hens he is an Aussie and last night i looked and he roosted alone? also i have noticed that he is staying outside all day and i am concerned he is no getting enough food.....any advice?

My rooster perches by himself, he has a wee perch above his hens, and seems to like it there, as he goes back to it every night, doesn't try push his way into the girls.. I have noticed as well, he is the first one out in the mornings, and the last to bed. From what i have observed, he is taking his rooster duties seriously and making sure nothing gets near the coop and his girls without him spotting it.

It will take a few days for him to settle in, the the hens to get used to him. Mine was the same, girls weren't too sure of this big new stranger, and he roamed for a couple of days, but then they all settled after a few days, and now will snuggle up together in the afternoons for a nap and some mutual grooming.

Ok thanks they are still chasing him and he stays outside all day even when they are inside but he could go in if he wants he is now staying outside and eating vary carefully around them
