The wood is in a square shape 1inX 1in. The total length overall is 55 inchs. It's been sanded down so the corners aren't sharp but also not entirely round.

I think the thickness is too small for their feet. It should be at least 2 inches. The suggestions on this thread are pretty good.

Go with a 2x4.

I think also, it is too close to the ceiling. Try lowering the roost.

As for the shape of the roost - I have several different roost options, and I really don't think it makes much difference.

Update I have switched to a 2X4 and lowered the bar a few inches. One of the chickens is using the roost the other three are still on the floor. We will see if they will take to the new bar
