Hens won't use next box?

I had a pullet who was a bit of a fidget. When she started laying eggs she would come into the house, get in the nest box with the rooster, make a lot of fuss throwing the straw everywhere and when she got bored with that, wander outside. Problem was, she hadn't layed the egg! I used to follow her down the path, half bent over jut waiting for the egg to get delivered. Sure enough, as soon as she got to the concrete, out would fall an egg. She didn't even break her stride.:gig
She got the hang of it eventually. She lays in the net box now and I don't have a back ache anymore.;)

The weird part of it all is that the culprit this morning has never done this before. I have another that it is her norm but not this one...why must they be naughty little hens?

Believe me, they have their reasons. The line at one of eight nesting boxes is hilarious at my coop. Sometimes one will be cramming itself into an occupied nest or just screaming at the one in the nest to get out so they can go in. I end up with 6 eggs in that same box within an hour and a half. We thought some of our girls was just "behind" in laying, finally we were getting ten eggs from the coop everyday from ten hens. We were prepping for Hurricane Florence and found a clutch of 24 eggs in a roof tarp. My husband said, I wondered why they were always "singing" over there. I had never seen them in that area laying or acting like they were going to lay, just always scratching around and making lots of noise...we are learning. And now all of them have learned to enjoy the nest. Believe me, if they were laying and now they are not...they are somewhere.
