Hi, about a less than a week ago my hen got a terrible injury on the back of her neck/head area, probably from a rooster but not sure, I cleaned the wound twice a day and put manuka honey and vaseline on it twice a day too (I do not yet have antibiotic cream that doesn't have pain reliever in it and I'm not sure when I can get some), and tonight while I was washing it (second time today) I noticed it was swelled up in some spots and kinda yellow, though there's no pus or anything like that yet. It wasn't like that this morning, but I also can't find any information online that isn't just "take your chicken to the vet" surprisingly, or maybe I'm just bad at searching. I just wanna know what I can do if it is infected, I can't afford a vet and I know eventually I'll get antibiotic cream but I don't know when that is. Any help is appreciated, please and thank you.

It really helps to have pictures to see what you are seeing. Manuka honey is fine by itself to coat the wound. Do you have any chlorhexidene, Hibiclens, or Betdadine (generic Equate First Aid Antiseptic for about $6 is the same.) at home for wound care. If there is infection or an abscess brewing, one of those can be used to disinfect the wound. Saline is also good to use for cleaning a wound.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I went to bed after making the thread. I have pictures now, and no I really have nothing except for two antibiotic creams, but they have pain killers in them so I can't use them, I'm working on getting stuff but I can't right now, I just wanna know if there's something I can do without antibiotics (if she even is infected, I don't know how chicken wounds heal)

That is a common place for injury from a rooster or pecking from hens, especially one that is new or bullied. Keep her separated, and you can get a small tube of generic triple antibiotic ointment at many Dollar Trees or dollar stores. Keep the wound clean and moist twice a day. Saline or a wound spray work well. She should heal fine. Then you will need to slowly start reintegration back into the flock.
