So they think I am the rooster?That is how they mate they are showing submission to you and offering you (b/c they think you are a rooster) the option of mating with them.
Why do they still run away (not as much) if they think I’m the rooster?Agreed. You are their rooster and they are submitting to you.
I always give my squatting hens a little firm petting on their backs then let them go. They do the fluff and shake thing -- which is really cute -- and go about their business with their instincts validated.
