My first to lay in the new flock started laying at 18 weeks and 2 days old. It was a bit early, so I wasn't surprised that her eggs were pretty small compared to the eggs from my last flock (that didn't start laying until they were 6 months old). My new layer has been consistent, laying an egg every day (except for 1 day) since she started. I think she's up to 10 eggs in 11 days. The first 2 eggs were very small, and then the next ones were a tad smaller than a store bought "medium" egg. The size seems to have leveled out at just under "medium", but she is a RIR and they are supposed to lay large eggs.

Will her eggs increase in size, or are these the size I should expect from now on? I was hoping they'd get a little bigger. She's only going to be 20 weeks old tomorrow, so I don't think she's full grown yet. I'm just curious as to what to expect. Any thoughts?

she'll probably lay about 20-30 smaller eggs before they start to get large, but they will get larger eventually. Make sure you are feeding layer pellets, oyster shell, and letting them scratch for bugs and such.
