I have garlic growing in my garden and I am looking to spray the weeds out of it and can’t remember what I can spray on garlic. Can anybody help me out

I would not spray any herbicide in my garden. You are going to have to either mulch heavily, or get down to the business of pulling weeds. Garlic is a short seasoned crop. I planted a bed of it late last fall. Then, I mulched it heavily with old hay. No weeds. The garlic is growing well with each stalk being about 3/4" in diameter. It will send up scapes soon, and be ready to harvest before Independence day. The bed can then be planted to an other crop.

It’s coming up now and there’s chutes about 6” tall. Can I lay straw over the whole area now or is it to late? Will the chutes come through the straw?

Anyone else? Can’t I spray anything on it??? I ran my tiller down a few rows last night but I kinda planted them a little tighter than I though. I’m getting to many weeds I can’t find the rows very well.

Yes your garlic will come up through the straw. I plant my garlic in the fall, October 15th to be precise, put a thick layer of straw over it and it comes up perfect. Not a weed in sight!! I live at elevation so I dont harvest till August but I love this system.

I figured there must be something you can spray on it. How does the big garlic farm keep weeds from overtaking the garlic??
