Yes your garlic will come up through the straw. I plant my garlic in the fall, October 15th to be precise, put a thick layer of straw over it and it comes up perfect. Not a weed in sight!! I live at elevation so I dont harvest till August but I love this system. It’s coming up now and there’s chutes about 6” tall. Can I lay straw over the whole area now or is it to late? Will the chutes come through the straw?
I have no idea really, but if they are conventionally grown, the ground around them is probably treated with a pre emergent weed suppressor.I figured there must be something you can spray on it. How does the big garlic farm keep weeds from overtaking the garlic??
