Due to material costs being through the roof here in Southern California, I decided to take on the challenge of building my own chicken coop from almost 100% recycled materials! The only things I bought for this coop were the pocket screws, one metal roof panel (already had two), and the gate latches. Everything else was stuff that I already had or stuff that I got for free from neighbors. All of the 2x4’s came from a neighbor of mine! I did have to spend hours pulling out nails and the wood was imperfect, but it was better than spending over a grand on the lumber alone! Below are the pictures of my coop! It is a standalone coop since I already have a predator proof chicken yard built around it. It’s definitely not perfect but I love it nonetheless.
