(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Semi. This is my second flock in my adult life after having chickens all of my childhood. I didn’t realize how much I missed them! I had 8 at my previous city home and a predator took them out when they were at a friend’s while we were moving to our new country home. Now I have 23.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
23. 16 laying pullets, 2 roosters, and 5 non-laying female chicks
(3) What breeds do you have?
Americaunas, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, Silver Laced Wyandottes, and a Buff Orpington.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Knowing where my food comes from and what it ate as it produced my food. Having an outlet for kitchen scraps.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Woodworking, music (I teach music), writing my dissertation
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Wife of 14 years to an active duty Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy, mother of an 8 year old little girl, 1 dog, 2 cats (not by choice...we live in a field in the country...they’re here for pest control purposes), elementary music teacher, working on my doctorate in Educational Technology and Online Learning.

Been a BYC stalker for a few years. Followed on FB. Figured it was time to actually contribute.
