Hello I joined BYC for asking health questions on my chickens. I later realized it was more than that and found my self browsing on it in my free time. Here is my story.
I live in Santa Barbara, CA my grandparents own a 2 acre property in the foothills. My uncle started a coop in January but didn't last long due to the predator pressure. Didn't think much of it until I started my summer farm job in Idaho. While I was working there I grew a liking to the Chicken and learned more about gardening. I came home and wanted to start a flock. The caretaker that took care of my grandparents Gave me some chickens and ducks. They had some problem but thanks to BYC now are all fine. As of today there is 15hens and 1 cockerel with 9 ducks ( I don't think the cockerel is going to last long) I will try my best to keep him quit. The city limit is 30 fowl so I'm looking to get a couple more chickens or ducks. I also started a garden that's about 3000sqft and preexisting orchard that's about 30 citrus trees.. I ride up there everyday on my bike to open and close the coop. I'm got all my permits to sell eggs and can't wait to try that out. I'm also looking to try Bee keeping. My aunt is moving to the Property in June and she seems sort of okay? with the birds. When she was growing up there they had peacocks, horses, and chickens. I tried convincing her to get some more animals but sadly she said no.
