So, my first hen went broody a couple months ago.
She's now raising a pretty little Ameraucana chick.
My 2nd hen went broody a few weeks ago,
and she's sitting on a clutch of beautiful blue-green Ameraucana eggs from Dipsy Doodle Doo (thanks Lisa!)
Now I've got a THIRD broody hen, and I'm trying to chose which breed to buy her some fertile eggs of.

I have 4 Golden Buffs from Meyer Hatchery (just over a year old).
They lay extra large dark brown eggs.
5 Black Australorps, also from Meyer (same age).
They lay smaller light brown eggs.
Now, provided at least one or two of my new babies are female, I'll have some blue-green eggs.

So I think I want some large white eggs.
What is a good breed of productive white egg layers?

Thanks.

Blue Andies are good from what I have read. I tried PW Leghorns & they are just not my type of bird.

I had some leghorn bantams that layed all winter last year

Isnt there a leghorn cross you can get? Lamona

I have black and buff Minorca's and they are some egg-laying machines! The blacks are prettier IMO....

I'm sure they could be but I didn't set out to make mine anything more than yardbirds so....they don't run away screaming like the brown leghrns but they also don't follow me everywhere (even into the car) like my black australorp either.....
