I finally got my coop done and started my little flock. I live in Northern California. I have a white Leghorn that showed up in my yard (a neighbor didn't keep his new flock contained and they all got killed the first night, this one ended up in my yard and I decided she needed my protection...), then I went and got three pullets, an arucana (sp) an easter egger and a Brahma. I love them to pieces, they are so much fun. Although I am concerned that my Brahma may be a rooster. She is super big which was to be expected because she is a Brahma, but I think she may have saddle feathers. It may be the breed that she is or it may be she is a he... take a look at my post under breeds and sexing chickens and let me know what you think. I don't know that I want to keep a rooster with only 3 hens..... but I am pretty attached already dangit

Welcome, welcome....nothin wrong with keepin a rooster with 3 hens. He'd be great for watchin out for them, not to mention he'd LOVE it.

Yes, he will! Do watch for signs of "over use" on the hens though - missing feathers, raw spots, etc.
