I have never raised chickens before but with all the info on this site I believe I am ready. Thanks for all the tips and ideas posted here and friends giving me do's and don't i am ready for my chicks.Opington and plymoth is the choices I have made. I am on my way to pick them up and put them in their new home. Wish me look and any input would be greatly

My advice is to build your coop and especially the run as large as you are willing to. Don't start with the maximum number of birds you can have. Your birds are going to be very good layers for 2-4 years and then not so much. So it helps if you bring in new birds every year or two so that you have a steady supply of eggs. Also you are going to be just as big of a sucker for cute baby chicks next spring as you are this spring. Best to leave space for the new additions. Good luck with your new birds.
 
Ya I have been doing that already,so even though I am starting small this year David has alreadt desided to make it biger because he knows I am going to fall head over heals for my chicks. Thanks for the info.
