My dh's cousin is a RSO. He moved to a new neighborhood
and the young lady that lived next door came over one day and started talking to him, I believe he was close to age 30 at the time.
The girl told him she was 18 almost 19 and was in college, he never thought to check it out because she had her own car and had a part time job. Being new there, he did not know anyone, and no other neighbors told him any different, so he never even thought that she was lying. She came over often and she made it known she was interested in him and she did seem to be mature for her age. Needless to say he found out she had lied to him, broke off the relationship, explained to her parents what had happened, and her parents pressed charges. He really had NO idea. He is a kind man, and comes from a good family, we all feel terrible for him, and he does comply with all the registering laws, even though he was wrongfully charged

poor guy, it could happen more than ya know, some young girls see it as a game...it's sad.

Generally 0-13 means under thirteen not thirteen exactly I believe the average age is 9 in people that are convicted in that age range. Being a child victim myself who later got to see the guy put on a pedestal because he found religion and then of course....committed the crime 3 more times (recorded, most kids keep quiet) with other kids. I have very little sympathy for these "men" and am glad you found out now.

And all I am saying is the only people who know what happened are the people involved. We have become too quick to pass judgement when we do not have all the facts.

Do I think 13 and 27 is disgusting? Yes I do, my DD JUST turned 14. Does she look 14? NO. I know girls in her class who do not look or act their age either. IF the guy had NO idea what her age was, how was he to know she was only 13? Ask for her drivers license? Birth certificate?

The RSO laws are a little out of whack IMHO; these guys who are NOT pediophiles get screwed for the rest of their lives because they were involved with a girl who was by law underage. The instances where the girlfriend is 17 and the boyfriend is 18 and the GF parents decide to press charges because they don't like the guy.... that needs to change. What if the GF was 18 and the BF 17; would the law be so quick to press charges? I think not, you rarely see that happening.

Let the guy explain himself, look over the court documentation and see if he is telling the truth or not (you can see from the records how old his victim was at the time). Or convict him again in your head and have nothing to do with him.

Welll.......... I was gonna say, we had a friend who was a registered sex offender, and was required to go to counseling clesses for 4 years. It was for exposing himself, he peed on the sidewalk when he was drunk. Not a GOOD thing, but not exacly what you would expect.

But then I read the under 13 thing. That is another issue intirely. Not fun for you.

But just remember, you can get in trouble for doing nothing, a lot of people have. I have looked into day care providing/ babysitting, and I won't do it. I have read about whole school districts that have a 'no touch' policy. No hugs, no pats on the head, nothing. Because they have had too many people get in trouble for nothing. And this includes preschool. PreK teachers cant even help little boys zip their pants after using the bathroom, because they are scared.

I agree, it sound bad, in this instance, and I wouldnt trust him, but you can get that label for a lot of things, it doesnt mean he actually molested someone. At least not in most states.

Jsut look at these things with a balanced veiw, the same way you would any story, to get the real facts.

And heres hoping you find out it was not what it sounds like, and you all can continue being friends.

You should really get the whole story. I know of 2 instances where somebody was put on the registry for ridiculous things. One of them was in Iowa. There used to be a private detective agency with an office in the same building I work in. The PI that worked there was hired by a lady to find her son. The kid was 13 years old and fell in with the wrong crowd and he ran off. The police were of no help. I guess they have no time to track down drug abusing runaways and bring them home. The guy was hired to find the kid. He located the kid and went and got the mother so that she could be there to authorize his removal from the crack house. This guy is huge and perfectly capable of removing just about anyone from anywhere. The mom and the PI went to the crack house. She identified the kid and told him to get in the van. He refused, and the mother gave the PI permission to pick him up and put him in the van. He did, but while carrying junior to the van, he had to grab the back of junior's pants. Well, the crackheads in the house called the police and said that the PI touched junior's butt through his pants. Junior agreed and asked to be put in a foster home and have charges pressed against the PI for sexually asaulting him. They did. He didn't go to jail, but he is on the registry. There was no sexual assault, but he is listed as a 50+ year old man that sexually assaulted a kid 13 or under.

The other stupid incident that I am aware of is the relative of a co-worker. The guy was home with his young toddler daughter. He went to check on her while she was napping and discovered that up and playing dress up. She took her diaper off and was standing naked in her mommy's shoes and a silly hat. The guy thought it was cute and took a picture so he could show his wife. When it was developed the 16 year old at the photo counter of Walmart thought it looked suspicious and turned it in to the police. He was charged with producing child pornography. He's not acyually on the published list, but he has a court order against him (part of his plea deal to not be prosecuted) to never coach kids sports, mentor kids, be a scout leader, etc. If he is ever caught participating in such activities, he will be added to the online list. After the kid at Walmart turned him in, the police came and ransacked his house looking for evidence. They found an incriminating picture that his wife took of the kid at about 6 months old in the bathtub.

Get the whole story. You just never know.
