here's a weird question

I received an email from someone. She's pushing trying to sell me a charcoal peahen. She posted pictures but I've got some serious reservations after doing some research on that email. For all I know, she could post pictures from anywhere. However, her price is reasonable and, as I've posted before, we have been looking for a charcoal hen for awhile, and she could be legitimate, too. I'm just curious if anyone has had any dealings with this person, using that email. She says she is not a breeder, but a hobbyist, but that was in response to my questioning her about it. I don't know how she got my email, but someone else sent me an email a while ago regarding a peahen they found, and they said they got my email off a poultry site, which I did post on some random sites when I was looking for the charcoal hen.

I'd just straight up.ask her how she found out ur email and second of all I would ask her if she'd be willing to chat over the phone but she'd have to ring u in case it's a scam (cause u never know nowa days) if she doesn't want to chat over the phone report and be on ur way if she does get back to us to see how things went

I had an email contact me but I was a clear scamer when he asked if I could pay over the phone the day before that was about 2 3 days ago

I'm pretty sure it is a scam, she's so pushy. I did ask how she got my email and also exactly where she was; she hasn't answered to either. I think I found on line the same picture that she used to represent her birds....but then, it could be her picture too....I don't think so though.

I'm looking for a sterile hen because i don't want more. I am sick of dealing with broody peahens and having them disappear or stay broody forever or me freaking out worrying about what I'm going to do if they hatch babies. We simply do not have the space for more, and I have read horror stories about people ending up with scads of them and then wondering if they can kill and eat them, or begging people to come catch them and take them away for free. I don't ever want to be in that situation. We have been lucky with our one remaining IB hen, because I have not ever seen her mate with the boys, although she may have, she does flirt with them. We want another hen to be a companion for her, as she prefers the company of another hen to that of the peacocks, and also as an extra female for our two peacocks. We bought a BS hen last spring, and immediately fell in love with her, but she was not a good fit, did not bond well with our IB hen, and she wandered off and disappeared after she'd been out of quarantine for a few weeks. We are sick about it, but I think she went broody somewhere and I don't know what happened after that, we never found any sign of her. She was nice because she was so easy to handle, but she was always mating with our two peacocks and I was sure I would probably end up having to sell her with any chicks that she produced, because, as I said, although we have housing big enough to keep one in quarantine for a month or so, beyond that, there's not enough space for them to be happy.

Most of the time those things are just clearly a scam. Especially since she won’t answer any of your questions I wouldn’t deal with her at all. You may lose more than the cost of the hen.

It would be just your luck to find that Charcoal hen and she lays for you. Keep me in mind and this fall I will probably have some hens available. BTW, Brad Legg told me last week that he had bred enough Spaulding into a Charcoal hen that she laid.

I fully realize that. Believe me, I'm being extremely careful. I'm sure I won't go through with it, if for no other reason that (now it's a he) has three peafowl, and I don't want to break up the group of them. I think that might be another reason why we lost our BS hen, because (and this is just an aside) she was three years old, she'd been with two other hens her whole life, and the breeder separated them, of course, to sell her to me. I think that's why she didn't fit in well, she missed her friends and her home. I worried about it at the time, but the breeder didn't think it would be a problem. It was.

Anyway, I did some research on the email addy, and didn't like what I saw. I'm really just playing with him at this point, unless he can absolutely prove he's legit, I won't touch it. He's really being pushy and telling me his wife is in hospital, etc.

I definitely will keep you in mind if I can't find one locally. If I do find one, or you have one available, I'm sure I will have a lot of questions. I remember you told me before that you might have some later this year, so I haven't forgotten that. I think Legg's, from what I've seen, are a bit higher priced than average, especially adding in shipping.....he does have a lot of nice birds on his site, though.
