is this tank heater a good one for hermit crabs? it is zoo med hermit crab heater. here is the link to the one at petco, they have it other places too though. I googled hermit crab tank heater so thats how I found it they also have it at amazon. I was wondering if its any good or if I should just get a heating pad or something. What do you think? it's an undertank heater. here is the link.

also is this 10 gallon glass tank from walmart any good? I think petco may have some too but I was just curious if walmarts is any good cause I think they tend to be cheaper and petco may charge a lot but I don't know. What do you guys/gals think? The downside to walmart tank is it does not come with a lid but it does seem huge and great and stuff and the reviews are good and stuff but idk. What do you think?

also should I use sand or coconut (like ecoearth) or gravel or a mix of sand and coconut or what for a substrate? what do you guys/gals think?

Thanks in advance for your help.

We have a local petstore owned by this guy where I get everything. You could try looking for a different petstore too. The heater is alot $50? I just used a heatlamp. We used a 10 gallon tank but with a lid. You want one they CLIMB! Unless you don't plan on having anything towards the top that they can climb on. We had 13 but had a power outage and a snowstorm and they all died about 3-4 years ago. We had this big piece of dried cactus they loved to climb on with a net across the tank they would get on and climb across. I suggest sand because the gravel isn't as healthy for them is what I have heard, just get a piece of screen or something so you can run the sand through to clean it and replace it every couple months. Good Luck with your hermits! Wish we were closer we still have all the stuff. The lid has a built in heat light.

Hermit. Crab.

Surely there is a web site for that!

Actually you can find a glass lid at any good aquarium store. I have one on my fish tank.

thanks yeah I have found some good websites, 2 to be precise, but I am just trying to figure out what to get, because they like tell you kinda what you need but not really super specific, like you may want/can get this bedding or this one or this tank but this tank works too, you need a heater, etc not super specific so I am trying to figure out if this stuff is any good. thanks. is zoo med good cause petco seems to have a lot of their stuff?

petco seems to have lots of good hermit crab stuff (or not so good idk all I know is they have a lot). I think I may get they hermit crabs from a gift shop place in Plymouth, thats where I got them last time years ago. But idk I may get them from petco or petsmart or something. what do you think? thanks.

I have gotten zoo med stuff before, yeah. You MIGHT be able to get it cheaper over the internet than at Petco.

I have no idea where the best place to buy a hermit crab is. Just off the top of my head I would say pet store because at least they would have criteria to follow on their care and so would hopefully be healthier.
