hermit crab Qs please help

The walmart tanks should work fine. When I had my hermit crab, I kept him in a five gallon tank with an undertank heat pad. It wasn't very expensive and worked just fine. I would mist the tank every day or so to keep the humidity up. Also, giving my hermit baths every now and then would help with the humidity too. He used to love walking around at the bottom of a plastic tub filled with warm water. You wouldn't believe all the stuff that would fall out of his shell!

Mine used to enjoy climbing on sticks and stuff, but pieces of screen work great too.

Have fun with your hermits! Even with all the money I spent on mine, I never had great luck, but they were certainly fun to have while I had them! I've heard of people having them for up to ten years. Mine never seemed to last for more than two.

I think we are going soon I may get like 2 or 3 and/or maybe get one for my bro. I may get them and then keep them in my room and not tell the rest of my fam and see how long it takes them to figure out I have hermit crabs haha lol. my mom is taking me I think, my younger bro is at the order of the arrow camp thing for the weekend, and my older bro and dad are on the boat I think for the weekend so I have time to get them and then stow them away before they notice/without them noticing haha lol

The heater and tank should be fine. Remember, they need moist sand or coconut bedding at least 4 inches deep for a small-medium crab, so they can bury to molt their exoskeletons. . Humidity and temperature gauges are nescesary. Humidity needs to be at least 70%!!!!!!!!!!!! They need friends. 2 is ok, but three is best! Many hermit vrab products sold are junk and are unhealthy or do not work. Verylittle research has been done about their needs. Many brands of commercial crab food have harmful preservatives. I feed organic table scraps. There are some good all natural stores to check out: http://www.hermitcrabaddictionstore.com/ Painted shells can be bad for crabs, as the gloss can chip and, if ingested, be harmful. Check out Hermitcrabassociation.com . I have 3 PPs and might be getting some Vioplas!

We have 3 hermit crabs and we went to our local craft store, they had those clear plastic see-thru tubs 1/2 off. The one we bought had a white cover. My husband took a dremel and put a shell design and wrote hermit crab home on the lid with holes for ventilation. It cost us $4. I bought the other stuff at petsmart. I don't have a heater in it, I put the box in an area that gets diffused light and is warm, the clear tub heats up great on it's own. They all seem happy and healthy.
