Getting ready to get some chickens and very excited about it. Been reading a ton and watching Youtube videos--so I think we're as ready as we can be. My wife and I are working on building our coop (its coming along very nicely and we have lots of fun ideas and plans for the future) and we're expecting our chicks within a few weeks from Meyer.

We'll be starting off with five chicks:
-Buff Orphington
-Rhode Island Red
-Jersey Giant
-Barred Rock
-Silver Laced Polish

We're located in Southern MD. Hot summers, moderate winters...

Welcome to BYC! You have picked out a nice list of breeds. I have had all of the breeds on your list (my Polish were Golden) and I especially like the Buff Orpingtons for their beautiful feathers, calm and gentle temperament, and good laying ability. Good luck with your flock.
