Our Bantam Gold Laced Polish cockerel named Spotted Elk is learning his place in the flock. He's 21 weeks old, in case anyone was wondering his age.

Only good photo I have of him

Yesterday while everyone was free ranging and I was keeping watch, I spotted two hawks flying overhead and let the dogs outside to help guard the chickens & ducks. All of a sudden, Spotted Elk started clucking like a hen then ran back into the chicken yard and I watched in surprise as every single bird including the ducks ran to where he was.

Everyone hid in different spots in the chicken yard and didn't come out for a while. The hawks eventually flew away to find another meal somewhere else.

I was so proud of him gathering everyone back in their safe yard, that he got some treats as a reward. Poor dude was scared when I picked him up and at first refused the treats because he just wanted to get away from me.

Still hasn't tried mounting the hens/pullets and still no crowing from him. He should've at least started crowing by now, right??
