(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes! We are moving to a new town the first weekend in January. The previous owners had chickens and we thought it would be great...ONCE WE MOVED. Our daughter's science teacher had eggs which hatched on Nov. 16th and yesterday our daughter called to see if she could bring some home. Since she had talked to her dad about it (I knew nothing about these chicks), I had her talk to him! He said yes, so we brought two home yesterday.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 2

(3) What breeds do you have? We don't know and the teacher who hatched them doesn't know either.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Our other daughter's art teacher just started raising chickens earlier this year and has a great set-up at her house. She even let us borrow her chick feeders! She said this is the "go-to" website!!!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Packing (since we're moving soon, I think this is a passing fancy), reading, Christian music

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I have 3 children...14 year old girl, 11 year old girl and 10 year old boy. My husband is an optometrist and we are moving an hour north the beginning of January...my mom (84) will be moving in with us. We have two dogs plus the chicks. I am blessed and get to stay home with my kiddos. When we move all of them will be home-schooled, so that is a new thing for me, too! Guess I'll be learning lots of things!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your little ones, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
