I got my first chickens in May of 2015. I ordered (all sexed pullet chicks) a Bantam Barred Cochin, a Bantam Gold Laced Cochin, and a Crele Old English Game Bantam. When I picked up the little chirping box from the post office, the box contained 8 little chicks! Two of the Gold Laced Cochin bantams, and three each of the Barred Cochin bantams and Crele Old English Game Bantams. I showed one of the Old English pullets at fair that year, and once she got home, a raccoon got her. I also lost a gold Laced Cochin to a raccoon. After those two losses, I obtained a Barred Rock Bantam from a breeder at a poultry show I went to. This spring, my poultry population doubled and we lost an Old English to cancer. I got three straight run Bantams from Tractor Supply (all three turned out to be Roos), a Bantam RIR, a White Cochin Bantam (who mysteriously died one night) and a Gold Necked d'Uccle. A neighbor recently complained, so I have to get rid of them. The last egg laid before our head roo (the Cochin) died is in my incubator and on day 18! I also got a Porcelain d'Uccle, four EE Bantams, and a Polish Bantam, bringing my total to almost 15. I also raise pedigreed Polish rabbits for show.
