im new to he quail world i literally fell into it when i found a hen on the side of the road by a busy intersection at midnight. i brought her home not even nowing whtit was,and she laid an egg the next day for me. mydad recoqnized as a quail because he used to raise them when he lived in Italy, but the wild type.

so i went out 2 weeks ago and i bought 3 more of what i thought where hens but so far only one of them is laying but the other 2 still haven't produced. im pretty sure one is a male(vent sexing method) but he hasn't started crowing yet any idea when he will start? they have to be at least 5 weeks or so old.

they are getting plenty of protein and calcium in their food, so i guess its just a waiting game for now. hopefully i could get all the hens laying.

if you do have a roo sounds like he's young still... as he'd be crowing this time of year if he was breeding age so i'd wait another week or two before you start wondering what's up

Also some hens when moved to new places wont lay for 2 weeks up to a month sometimes. Just keep them unstressed and wait

I'm glad you rescued a stranded coturnix hen!
