I hate to tell you this, but... it isn't. I have been informed that because the first robin that I saw this year was a pile of feathers left by my cat, we weren't getting spring

I am happy to report that spring has arrived on the eastern part of the state!!! we did get the storm last weekend, but it has already melted off and today was gorgeous!!! I sat out in the yard wearing shorts and flip flops while I watched all my sweetlings foraging around. They seemed to enjoy it as much as I did!!!!!

Fear not- Spring is coming!!!

Hi all - I have city chickens in Fargo, ND, if you can believe that! Not sure if anyone will see this thread...but I'd love to start a new one for ND if not. We need to stick together. ;-) there aren't many of us in the STATE to begin with, let alone on the forum!

this winter has been so odd, I wish I had not cut back my quail,they would have handled this fake winter so easily so far!
THey even started laying again, something that has never happened until at least March for me.
This end of the state has grown by over 20 thousand people in the last couple years, major housing shortages, high rents and alot of rapes and drug crimes

The only good news is that most of the newcomers are from the south and have so much extra money that I raised my prices on my birds to 20 bucks each and these southern people are just buying them like crazy for butchering!
I would never pay that for quail but hey if they want to pay it I will take it lol.

How did you get past your laws to have a rooster in city limits in Fargo or do you just have hens? I have to keep my cocks at the farm and just bring em in for "visits" to keep my girls fertilized

I spend most of my time on the farm so its ok,but I would like to be able to have the cocks in town, luckily japanese quail travel well so they dont mind, but it is a hassle for me.

55F here today, I am betting we are going to pay for this nice weather and get nailed and flood out again in spring. I still have a coop that is a total write off, the coop was in the same spot since 1883 and never ever was damp in the past, but it still has about a foot of water in that area from the flooding last year. Sad to see such an old building getting ruined.

Snow cover would be nice if this was a normal year, but as saturated as the ground is I won't complain that we don't have much. My daughter lives in Fargo, if you start selling eggs maybe I should send her your way? She is here for a few weeks and loving the eggs...

I just can sell hatching eggs at this point, in ND you need a special license to legally sell eggs for eating, way too many laws. The only thing I can do is tell people I am selling them for hatching or pet food,but what they do with them after they leave my house is up to them hehe.

Nope... as long as the people approach you to buy eggs (even if you advertise) you can sell your eggs for consumption. You just can't sell to stores, schools, restuarants, places like that (unless they changed the laws and I don't about it). The big restrictions are on milk.

I am up near Mayville (between Fargo and Grand Forks) and I sell eggs- in fact right now I am OVERRUN! All of our spring chicks from last year are finally laying regularly so we are getting between 6-12 eggs a day. Lots of fun, but we can't keep up!!I am happy that we worked out a deal for alfalfa with a nearby farmer for eggs- so our chickens are supplying our goats with their food too.

Anyway my chickens are absolutely thrilled with the weather we are having- they are still out and about foraging and playing in the sun. We only have about an inch of snow here (if even) and the temps have been mostly in the 30's.

As for chickens in Fargo- that is awesome that you have them in town! Are you hiding them or is it allowed? too funny!!
