Hello there!
I'm a wife, and a mother of 2 girls (ages 2 & 6), a cat, possibly a wild turtle who may or may not live in our pond, and now 3 one month old chicks! We live in New England, in a very farm friendly area, and though we visit & interact with chickens fairly regularly, we are the newest of the newbies here.
We got the chicks when they were about a week or so old in early May, and while I don't know the breeds (I hope that's not embarrassing for me to say. Remember how new I am at this!), the largest one is a beautiful purely cream color, another looks like salted caramel ice cream, and the smallest (once the biggest), is all black. I absolutely love watching them and seeing how distinct their personalities are. What funny little beings.
I first found BYC a year or two ago when I first wanted to venture down this road. I was pregnant at the time and then when my youngest was born I decided that maybe it wasn't quite the right time to tackle such an endeavor. Then last spring I chickened out (couldn't help it lol). This year was the year! As I started to prepare I tried to think of that amazing website I'd found where it seemed like one could learn all there is to know about raising chickens. Low & behold, right at the top of my google search, there was BYC! So happy to find you again & I've already gotten some really great guidance & even some emergency help when one chickie was injured (she's doing great now)! It didn't occur to me to register until today & I'm so happy to do it! Thanks to all of you for your real world experience, welcoming tone & easy to understand assistance! So happy to be part of the group!
