Hi, everyone, I'm Will. I've been lurking this forum for the past several months after my accidental foray into raising poultry - I currently have one mallard drake (the one in my profile pic) that was rescued by a family member of mine and now is a happy six month old house duck. I know that isn't ideal, but with everything going on with COVID I am fortunate enough to be home seven days a week and able to tend to him most hours during the day so he doesn't get too lonely. He gets lots of treats and he loves mealworms, peas, corn, and berries! He also gets lots of time to play and snuggle, and goes for a swim in the bathtub 1-2 times a day. I'm moving within the next few months and plan to move him into a pen/coop in a heated garage as well as getting him a couple other drakes to keep him company, not sure what kind yet. Should I stick to smaller breeds, or will a mallard get along with larger breeds?

Welcome to BYC. Your drake needs sunlight. Why not build him a little coop outside? With ducks you just need an enclosure for nighttime and cold weather, and a secure run, which needn't be too large. Also, why not get him a female or two instead of more drakes? You could get him females of any size. If you get larger drakes as friends, it probably won't go well for him. Anyway, good luck, and I hope you enjoy the website.
